Ryan Pescatore Frisk and Catelijne van Middelkoop are the founding partners of Strange Attractors Design (2001), an international studio located in Rotterdam and New York, which creates innovative and strategic solutions to influence culture and commerce.

The work of Strange Attractors has been published in numerous books and periodicals including TDC annuals: Typography 24, 25, 26, 28, 30 and 31, ADC Young Guns 4, ADC 82, Contemporary Graphic Design (TASCHEN), Area 2 (Phaidon), Staging Space, Tactile,Playful Type 2 & Left, Right, Up, Down (Gestalten), Typography Referenced, Drawing for Graphic Design, Graphic Design Referenced & the Atlas of Graphic Designers (Rockport), Typography: Graphic Design in Context and Icons of Graphic Design (Thames and Hudson), The 3D Type Book (Laurence King), Handjob (Princeton Architectural Press), Dutch Type (010), Real Dutch Design (BIS), Super HD:Holland Design (Actar), Exploring Typography (Thomson Delmar Learning), and magazines including Print, Étapes, Adbusters, Eye, I.D., Items, IdN, Experimenta, designNET, 2+3D, Page, Hollands Diep, Le Monde, Design, and DPI.

Strange Attractors received the Jury Prize as well as Gold for Brand Implementation from the European Design Awards 2010 and a Silver and Bronze from the EDA in 2011 and 2012 respectively. In 2007 Strange Attractors was one of the nominees for the Rotterdam Design Prize. The studio was also nominated for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2007 and the Dutch Design Prizes in 2003. The studio received a Red Dot Award for High Quality Communication Design in 2006 and their work was Judge's choice in TDC2 & TDC53, included in ADC Young Guns 4 and ID Magazine's ‘ID Forty’ of 2006. Van Middelkoop and Pescatore Frisk's work is part of the permanent collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam and was included in the Dutch Pavilion of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai.

In 2012 Van Middelkoop and Pescatore Frisk were appointed Curators of the renown Graduation Show of Design Academy Eindhoven.

As active researchers and educators Van Middelkoop and Pescatore Frisk have given workshops and lectures in cities worldwide including Moscow, Prague, Katowice, Novi-Sad, Zagreb, Berlin, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Eindhoven, New York, and Chicago. Catelijne and Ryan both teach in the Man and Communication department at Design Academy Eindhoven, as well as the Royal Academy of Art (KABK), The Hague, the Willem de Kooning Academie, Rotterdam and previously at Parsons, NY.

Pescatore Frisk received a B.F.A. in Graphic Design from the Savannah College of Art and Design, an M.F.A. in 2D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art and an M.A. in Typography and Type Design from The Royal Academy of Art/KABK, and an M.A. in Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology—Media, Visual and Material Culture from Leiden University in 2013.

Van Middelkoop has an MFA in 2D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art, a Degree in Graphic & Typographic Design from The Royal Academy of Art/KABK, studied Art History and Archeology at The University of Amsterdam and was on the national board of directors of the BNO (Association of Dutch Designers) from 2006 to 2012.
