Our typeface ‘Brunn’ received a certificate of excellence in type design + Judge’s choice

“The use of ornament in whatever style or quality comes from an attitude of childish naïveté” said Jan Tschichold. ‘Brunn’ on the other hand, is a formal alternative to those typefaces that did not grew out of this naïveté. Therefor, this typeface, although constructed on the computer, does not lack any flaws of the hand. While seriously playful in its appearance, with a twist of the Von Trapp’s, we wish ‘Brunn’ well in a world of neo-modernist conservatism and pre-occupied minds. Let the games begin!

Judge’s Choice
Brunn’s designers celebrate form and embrace typographic visibility. They are of a generation of designers who love to appreciate the aesthetics of typography and letterforms.   Along with it’s alphabet, Brunn utilizes a series of of alternate characters with varying stress direction and ornamental swashes. These alternates allow Brunn to morph from relative restraints to unbridled excess within one word. The alternates bring to mind Herb Lubalin’s Avant Garde ligatures, which also allow the designer to replace characters to respond to spatial relationships and composition. Brunn’s alternates give the typeface a dynamic, improvisational character.   Brunn also distinguishes itself with hand-crafted, unrefined contours. In looking closely at Brunn’s outlines, it seems that no two lines are the same. These slightly varying contours make the letterforms dance and invite the viewer to see the typography and celebrate it’s form. Vive le maximalisme!”
