Cranbrook Graduate
Catalogue, Transit
We designed the new Cranbrook Academy of Art graduate catalogue.
In 2002 we introduced a new approach to and format for the annual Cranbrook DegreeShow Catalogue. By reducing the amount of colors we were able to increase the size as well as the amount of pages in ‘Transit’ which allowed us to focus much more on the actual work of each individual student. On the surface level we then tied everything together using one overlapping theme: Cranbrook, situated in one of the wealthy suburbs of Motor City Detroit, can only be reached by car. This inspired our custom photography as well as the typeface which we based on car parts of the original ‘Plymouth Cranbrook 53’. Adrian Frutiger’s ‘Univers’, ‘Turfhaus’ and a custom, resin casted, version of this typeface, completed the typographic toolkit for this production.
